What are circular economy and upcycling?

What is circular economy?

Circular economy, also known as circular economy, is an economic model that aims to minimize waste and keep resources in use for as long as possible. Unlike the traditional linear economic model, which often works on a "take, make, dispose" basis, the circular economy relies on reuse, repair, refurbishment and recycling.

Here are the basic principles of the circular economy simply explained:

  1. Reduce: Minimize the use of raw materials and energy. This can be achieved through more efficient production processes and the choice of sustainable materials.

  2. Reuse: Reusing products and materials as often as possible. This means repairing or refurbishing items instead of throwing them away.

  3. Recycle: Recycling materials that can no longer be used to make new products. This reduces the need to extract new raw materials and reduces waste.

  4. Design for durability: Designing products to last longer and be easier to repair or recycle.

  5. Closed loops: Waste products and by-products of one process are used as raw materials for another process, so that as little waste as possible is generated.

An example of circular economy is a company that manufactures electronic devices. Instead of simply disposing of the devices after their useful life, the company collects the old devices, repairs or refurbishes them, and then resells them as used devices. Parts that can no longer be used are recycled and used in the production of new devices.

This approach reduces environmental impact, conserves resources and makes the economy more sustainable.

Circular economy currently only accounts for 7.2% of global resource use. We are helping to change that :-)

What is upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of transforming unused materials and products into something new and valuable instead of throwing them away. It's about increasing the value of something and giving it a new function or use. More and more new sources of raw materials are being found whose high-quality properties are valuable alternatives to chemically synthesized materials.

In relation to our skin care range, this means: We take by-products and waste products from food production and transform them into high-quality skin care ingredients. Check out our blog - there we have explained each individual active ingredient in detail.
